Picture
but even if these tunes never see a brighter light of day than what i've mixed here, i'm still face first in wet earth in open-mouthed gratitude for the opportunity to find them with you 🙏🏼♥️.
  1. Choro - means to cry and this song is about not finding the words to do so.
  2. Stone Chords - the unforgiving, relentless beauty suspended between our opposites. my insatiable need for structure, predictability, rhythm. your dancing in chaotic, reflected light seeking what's next. inspired by building cairns in the Creek.
  3. Rain - rearranged from several sections of a single jam when you let your pedals out to play. you re-showed me the clip of September's Creek rain on the dome from when you had no where else to go there for a spell. i ripped that rain clip to fit under the tune after i heard the rain in what we were doing. that's the rainbow there at the end.
  4. Firefly Waltz - as we found our way into the heart of this tune, i was overcome with an image of getting to play it with you, decades from now, you with a sheath of silver curls, on a porch in appalachian twilight.
  5. Repair - the reason for tears were the images i was given to surf. we were in a mountainside meadow repairing a long stone wall that was crumbling. it was ancestral in nature, the wall, and were were using flat stones and patches of moss to put it back together again. i was awash in the feeling of the holiness of the work, on behalf of all of the ones that came before.
  6. Kintsugi - this tune spored out of the space between us the camping-night-of-the-full-moonrise when that shaft of moonlight was setting caterpillars free in their writhe on the surface of the lake. i don't even remember what part of the working-in-schools-can-be-hell-at-times sentiment i shared, i just remember the impact of your side hug around the shape of my heart after i shared it. it was so sudden and so assured. i felt i owed it to you, and to peter with his forlorn look on his own face, when i come home burnt at times. about why i go back into the fire. i'd already been given the chorus lick, "I came for the wreckin"... but after that night I knew what it meant. lately, i realize it can be "reckon" too, and make it's own kind of equal sense. the fiddle takes its natal place as the mending line of gold.
  7. Taters&Gravey - the live recording from the 'Dive. its genesis was a whistle lick i was given.... Dec 15, 2021... exactly two years ago when i rendezvoused with you for the holiday 🤯.
  8. Porch Rain  - from the Armory jam.
  9. Rise on Water  - from the Armory jam.
  10. Blood Ties  - from the Armory jam. my first listen was intense. about as intense when you first sent Crossroads Waltz. it felt like the fiddle's bow was writhing in my veins, but as a being of light, not horsehair. just those strings of ribboned light from pictures of painting with light, but a living thing in my blood. like a water serpent, but in blood, instead of water. like, this sound, these instruments are in my blood.
